The Lakes of Bandiamir near Bamiyan in Central Afghanistan - 1995.

The road from Mazar in Northern Afghanistan to Bamiyan in Central Afghanistan. The journey takes about two days if the weather is good. The area is isolated and relies on the spring wheat crop to supply it with food. These two photos were taken during a journey to investigate supplying the area with emergency aid, because landslides had cut off access to their main supply route. Improving road access would bring tremendous change to communities in these isolated areas.
